Nearby Areas for the Best Fall Foliage

As many of our campers know, our Fruita, CO campground offers stunning views of the fall foliage, but the beauty doesn’t stop there! The surrounding area is filled with even more picture-perfect spots to catch the vibrant colors of the season. Check out a few of our favorite scenic stops for unbeatable fall views!

Rim Rock Drive

Just minutes from Fruita, Rim Rock Drive winds its way through Colorado National Monument and has been named one of the top foliage drives in the entire U.S. In autumn, the red rock canyons and sandstone spires are framed by swaths of golden cottonwoods and autumn shrubs. Pull-offs like Saddlehorn and Artist’s Point offer sweeping views over the Grand Valley drenched in fall color. Whether you're driving or stopping to hike Serpents Trail, Rim Rock delivers a breathtaking, mural-like autumn experience.

Snooks Bottom Open Space

For a peaceful riverside getaway, head to Snooks Bottom Open Space along the Colorado River. In mid-to-late October, towering cottonwoods and box elders reflect shimmering yellow and orange tones across the river. A stroll along the trail or pause at the pedestrian bridge delivers serene, mirrored foliage views—perfect for photography or a quiet moment surrounded by autumn’s glow.

Grand Mesa

About 40 minutes from Fruita, Grand Mesa delivers one of Colorado’s most dramatic fall displays. As the world’s largest flat-topped mountain, it rises above the valley with thick aspen groves that turn brilliant gold and fiery orange by early to mid-October. A drive along the Grand Mesa Scenic Byway offers endless panoramic views, where layers of spruce, fir, and deciduous trees create a vibrant patchwork of autumn color. With its crisp alpine air and sweeping overlooks, Grand Mesa is a breathtaking destination for anyone chasing fall foliage in western Colorado.
